Autism Speaks is seeking a Social Media Manager to work in our dynamic Marketing Communications department.  The Social Media Manager is self-driven and a tech-savvy professional who is well-versed in social media and is an expert at engaging social audiences with scroll-stopping digital content. The Manager will develop and implement strategies to increase social media following and leverage Autism Speaks’ audiences on all current and emerging social media platforms to engage in service for the organization’s mission and strategic business goals.

The Social Media Manager will engage followers online and through the implementation of innovative high-quality strategies that drive a stronger connection between the organization and its online audiences.   

Must have experience engaging online Autistic Communities.

While the position is remote, ideal candidate will be located in Texas (or open to qualified candidates that may sit outside of this region)

Responsibilities
Community Engagement:

  • Manage our portfolio of high-traffic global social media channels owned and operated by Autism Speaks and its field offices (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube etc.).
  • Plan, design, create and posts for Autism Speaks national social media
  • Implement social media engagement strategy across all platforms
  • Curate content (videos, images, articles), write engaging copy (headlines and captions), and use smart SEO tactics to grow digital audiences and keep them engaged with Autism Speaks.
  • Collaborate daily with internal departments and global regions to optimize digital and social content.
  • Discover engaging and unique user-generated story content from individuals across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan
  • Build and maintain a centralized database of community stories for strategic use in campaigns.
  • Deliver new and innovative ways to support the organizations mission objectives on various social media platforms
  • Assist Director and executive leadership in establishing, refining, and executing social media profiles and communications protocols in select channels.
  • Monitor social media comments and direct messages daily; respond thoughtfully and professionally to foster community engagement and support.
  • Explore and recommend additional social media networks for consideration and identify new trends in the marketplace.
  • Provide support for local staff’s social media efforts by coordinating best practices and provide regular support in their implementation
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs), create metric reports, analyze campaigns and provide insights and feedback for future campaigns
  • Work closely with internal departments (examples: mission-related, science, advocacy and fundraising) on coordination of messaging and content for social media posts
  • Utilize digital and social media consumption metrics to identify trends and strategize accordingly to maximize engagement and overall traffic.
  • Experience with the Autistic Community important.

Position Requirements
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, Communications or relevant field

Experience:

  • 5 - 7 + years of experience in engaging online Autistic communities and knowledge of best practices.
  • Proven work experience as a community manager or similar role.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva and Video editing.
     
Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to listen to varying points of view 
  • Hands-on experience with social media management
